hey guys.... in deep **** here.....
my cd drive workin on my powerbook... need to replace it .... bu that s another story..... well wanted to install panther on my powerbook.... but since the cd drive doesnt work i couldnt use teh cds.... so my friend bougth over his powerbook.. and i started my powerbook on target mode... and connected to his thru firewire... then he used cd 1 of the set adn clicked on my harddrive to onstal... all fine ... but at teh end of the first cd.. i didnt ask for the other 2 cds.... why si that anyone knows.... i am stuck with a 1/3rd of a os adn need help assap.... please...

any other way to install panther on my powerbook?

Set your computer into target disk mode and boot up from it on your friend's Mac. If it still doesn't ask for the extra discs, then you can manually install by double clicking the packages on disks 2 and 3.

thx for the help... will retry the above..... sorry again if i seemed rude ealier.... didnt mean to.... got carried away i suppose

is there anyway for me to save my stuff on the comp. if i reformat the drive using panther ?

Again, booting into target disk mode and then connecting it via FireWire to your friend's Mac will allow you access to all the files on it. You can then copy them, burn them to CD, or whatever. Without a working CD drive, you are pretty limited to using target disk mode to do what you want. Unless you have an external FW optical drive which would make things a lot easier for you.

i installed panther using my comp. in target mode.. used all 3 cds...... but when i restart my com. it asks for disc 2 ..... adn then when i cancel install.. it goes back to its partly installed mode...

shld i copy eh packeages form cd 2 aqnd 3 separately? will that work ?

What you need to do is boot from your PowerBook's hard drive on your friend's machine. To do this, just mount your PowerBook in FireWire Target Mode like you've been doing, then select it as the startup disk on your friend's machine. Then, you can insert disk 2 and 3 when prompted to do so.
