Did anyone encounter this problem:

On a freshly installed Win XP with slipstreamed SP2 I cannot reach Microsoft sites, M$ UPDATEsites (not even Winupdate autofunction) etc.

All the other websites work.

Any idea? I never had those problems with Win 2k. Viruscheck was negative.

Yeah, and I can help you, but first I need some other information. Go to the Apple menu, choose About This Mac, and tell me what it says there . . .

Check the security settings (blocked zones) in IE for the Microsoft sites. The main fix is at www.mozilla.org. Unfortunatly you can't ping Microsoft (I guess they get a lot of those....), does 207.46.130.108 load up?

lets see....the hosts file, winsock additions, your ISP's DNS server (the above circumvents that), http://security.kolla.de/ incase some program thinks windowsupdate is a threat, check the windows firewall....

Lots of MS questions lately....not sure why this is in the OS X area though, unless you're thinking VPC makes it so....

edit: on a slipstream? every install? could be you need to re-burn it, or use different media or a different burner, maybe corruption of some kind.

The Mac OS X forum is strictly for the discussion of the Mac OS X operating system. This forum isn't even for discussing programs that run on OS X, much less for discussing anything Windows.
