I haven't yet tested the new MSN search beta... but as you can see they apparently like Apple's tag line for Spotlight; but they used different punctuation, so it must be fine.

Update: Im testing now. they even use the same type of pulsing magnifying glass animation to show that its indexing.

Apple's is more close to grammatically correct, although MS knows the rules for capitalization better than Apple does.

Regardless, that's just shameless.

Even though this concerns Software I think this would be a much better "Lounge" topic.

Well, Apple did ask them to fire up their copy machines. That's hilarious, though, using the same tagline and magnifying glass animation.

This is quite interesting, to say the least - and they even have it out already ... I guess they had their pre-emptive copy machines lying in wait!

If you look at the Safari title bar in that screenshot, they missed out one of the commas from the advertising line!

Well, it's still beta like Apple's. Just Microsoft does more open beta tests than Apple does.

Just tried it, doesn't work very well. I did a search for iTunes which is installed on the computer, didn't find anything. Messy interface also.

in order to find anything you must have your drive indexed. But ya it was HORRIBLE on my system. and frustrating... and I'm not one to bash microsoft just because it's microsoft. They put the search bar in internet explorer with like 1,800,0000 (okay 9 maybe) other little icons. Look similiar to google search bar except it's got buttons for MSN messenger etc. When I ask it to hide on my start bar my entire start bar dissappeared. I could not get it to come back, actually it didn't completely dissappear because if I hit the windows menu key i could still see the menu. I changed resolutions a few times, nothing, i unhid MSN searchbar, stilll nothing. I uninstalled it, and my start bar came flying back down from the heavens. Overall it was very bloated and logo oriented. The program wanted you to know that you were using MSN search bar, not someone else. Unlike Spotlight is just a search tool.

Advantages of MSN Search Suite:

MSN Search Suite is shipping now [albeit in beta form]
Many, many more people will use this or a successor than will ever use Spotlight, simply because of Windows marketshare
Advantages of Spotlight:
 1. Spotlight builds a index, much like MSN Search (and Copernic, etc.) However, Spotlight also updates changes immediately (file creation, for instance), while from what I can tell MSN Search needs to re-index.
 2. Spotlight allows creation of Smart Folders.
 3. Spotlight searches (and Smart Folders) are available from the command line.
 4. Spotlight allows find-as-you-type within Mail; MSN Search doesn't do anything similar for Outlook.
 5. Spotlight is available through Open/Save dialogs [right??]; MSN Search isn't.
 6. Spotlight can be integrated into apps by developers (in other words, there's a published API); to the best of my knowledge, MSN Search has no such feature.
 7. Spotlight is integrated into the Finder as the new search mechanism; MSN Search is an add-on to Windows, and the outdated native Search function still works (or doesn't) as usual, not making any use of the new MSN features.
