i installed an app which had also installed an app called "openbase"
(this was a database program, with network sharing capability).

i noticed "openbase" loading during startup, and a search produced 58 items with that name.

anyone know what this is, why i need it (or why i don't)??

just curious...

OpenBase is the database software (databases do not have user interfaces... the solutions that sit on top of them do... common misconception). I would look around for an un-install script, because ti probably put things in at least 3 locations...

If you are using the software that it came with, then you probably need it.

The application is probably using OpenBase as its data store. If you delete OpenBase, you'll break the application (DayLite?)

There is a un-install command... find it... don't go randomly deleting files based on names... you will just break your computer.
