I have an old iMac with 10.3.6 that no longer has an ethernet card (blew it out in a thnder storm). So when I want to transfer some games for my kids, I put them on CD and transfer them. I now have a problem where .dmg images will no longer mount on this computer. I get the following message: "The following disc image failed to Mount error -536870208." I am able mount these images on a different computer so the image is OK. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I repaired permissions. I am now going to run Disc Warrior and Tech Tool Pro and see if that helps.

Thanks for the help,
Lou

I had this in my files .. maybe it will help you ..

"I bought an iBook with OS X 10.3 and upgraded it to 10.3.1. After the upgrade, I could not mount disk images from my hard drive or burn CDs. Apparently this is a common problem after upgrading. I phoned AppleCare and this is what they had me do:
1. Run /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
2. Click on “Macintosh HD” in the left column and then press the “Repair Disk Permissions” button. I don’t think this step was part of the solution to my problem.
3. Delete the file called /System/Library/Extension.kextcache
4. Delete the folder called /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernalcaches/
5. Restart
After these steps, disk images mount properly and the CD burner works."

Thanks. Permission Repair did not do the trick but the Sysytem Deletions worked. I can now mount images once again.

angeluv4dr, please start a new thread about this and be as descriptive as possible. This thread is four years old and about an OS from two generations ago.
