i do some work for a guy with a dual G4 powermac...
running server software.

he decided to do an archive & install, and...used the basic dvd that came with his mac.
(he forgot he had the server software running)

when he went to login, would not take his password.

so...he used the dvd to reset the password.

now, when he logs in, he gets taken to a darwin screen.

anyway i can get him back to the finder??

help! (please...!)

thanx

I'm having the very same problem, except I didn't even reinstall.

It sounds like you have pieces of different versions of different OS's conflicting... The best thing to do at this point is to do a "Archive and Install" from the original disk. This will move the old system (folder) to a "Previous System" folder and create a brand new install. Chances are this will solve everything (although the server admin tools will still be there, only useless).

You do have the choice to keep the current users, and this might work fine... or it might not... depends on how things happened. There is a "Options" button in the installer for doing this.

thanks for the idea...

we did target disk mode & backed everything up, then a clean install.
seemed worth it!
