Hi
Am I the only one not to happy about the 10.3.7 upgrade? Yes it makes the OS faster and more responsive, but never had I had that many kernel panic!!. Since I started using OS X, which was from the first release, I had 3 kernel panics in total. But on 10.3.7 I had 1 or 2 a day!!! I am back on 10.3.6 now, because I prefere stability over the small improvements in speed.

No I am curious to find out if I am the only one having the problem or if others are experiencing the same. If it's only me I am thinking it might be hardware related - I just had a new harddrive.
The problems I had was the sign telling me to restart by holding down the powerbutton until the computer turned off. It only happened to me 3 times before, except for when my harddrive was dying. Anyway I am back on 10.3.6 and the next few days will show if it's the system or my computer

basically, you seem to be asking if everybody experienced the same massive instability you described with 10.3.7.
The short answer is "no."
Now - whether the instability is due to some rare bug that affects you (i.e. an Apple problem), or if it's due to a corrupt disk/bad hardware (i.e. your problem) is up for debate, but no - if everybody (or even a significant percentage) were experiencing 2-3 kernel panics a day, you can bet your life there'd be a lot more noise made about it.

You could, like, provide the contents of your panic.log file to Apple so they can determine the cause.

I've been having kernel panics since 10.3.7, but I had attributed it to other things (my hd). However everything checks out on all kinds of tests so if you want panic.log, have ataste of this (a sample):

These are simply three of them. The most recent one today went unlogged.

Good point! Only I formatted the drive and installed 10.3.6 and so far my powerbook has been running 28 hours without panics. I actually didn't know that such a logfile excisted

And from the subject of this thread, I thought the OP was effusively praising that god among OS releases 10.3.7. Most misleading subject line ever.

I installed 10.3.7 yesterday and did get one kernal panic as I was retstarting a few hours later. But, I had just finished ripping, compressing and burning a bunch of DVDs so I though my Mac was just tired.

If you can provide the following information:
Summary, Steps to Reproduce, Actual Results, Expected Results, a System Profiler report and any other information you think would be useful.
I'll file a bug on your behalf.

No, kern el panics should never happen. The same goes to you, if you provide the relevant information I'll file a bug with Apple.
Or either of you can file the bugs yourselves.

Running 10.3.7 on a 12" 1ghz PowerBook here too. No crashes or panics or whatever..
In fact it hasn't crashed since I bought it over a year ago, regardless of OS, and it see's lots of use.

Sorry guys it was on my powerbook the problem was - just had another kernel panic with 10.3.6. I noticed it happens when I physically move the computer, so I guess it's the harddrive again.

You shouldn't move your laptop while the hard drive is spinning. It's better to put the laptop to sleep and then move. Obviously for smaller moves it's easier to keep the laptop open, just be careful.

Zoomzar, your panic is implicating Airport, maybe the card came loose while installing the new hard drive (since you stated this only happens when you move it). Try pulling out the airport card and reseating it.

Of course. KPs should NEVER happen. If they do you have to ask yourself two things:
• did I screw around with system files w/o knowing WTH I was doing?
• did I add new hardware or fiddle around with my previous hardware?
If both can be answered with no you should have the Mac repaired because probably there is broken hardware. If you answer one with yes, you know who's to blame and what's to do.

well while i haven't had any problems with panics in 10.3.7, i have had problems with itunes unexpectedly quiting on me. This only happened after i formatted and did a clean install of 10.3 then the 10.3.7 combo updater... And i've done it 3 times....same result.
