I've read a bit about this and I believe that Mac OS X doesn't support UDF 2 yet. Does anyone know when or if they will soon? I was considering buying ReadDVD from Software Architects as it's only £13 but if Apple are going to add support soon, there's not much point.

I'm trying to access the video made on my Panasnonic dvd video recorder.

I was able to read the UDF made by toast 6 but not the UDF from my video recorder.

It actually says UDF_MEI is the format on the dvd-ram discs??

You are correct: current support is UDF 1.5 or earlier. I've not seen anything on the Rumor sites re: UDF 2.x and Tiger, so I'd say it's an open question.

That's the only option I'm aware of at this time. You'd have to contrast the expenditure on the software vs. the cost of using DVD-Rs. I've read that DVD-R's burned on the Panasonic DVRs work under Mac OS X.

I believe the MEI part stands for Matsushita Electric Industrial, i.e.Panasonic. Shows that the disc was formatted or burned on a Panasonic device.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I'm using my dvd-ram discs for data at the moment. I can use them as hard-drives just now using the HFS+ format but I only get 4.3GB on a 4.7GB disc. I heard if I used UDF, I would get 4.7GB.

However, I don't know how reliable the UDF format is. Some people say it's buggy etc. for using with data storage. Also, I don't know how to format discs as UDF on Mac OS X. I can do UFS but I didn't think that was the same thing because I only get 3.8GB with that.

I was also planning on burning the dvd-rams to dvd+/-r so they are more secure backups but I don't know whether to use the UDF format in toast or the mac/pc hybrid like I did with cds. The toast UDF format seems to work fine on the dvd-ram discs.
