Hi

My Trash seems to be 'locked' - I have a dialogue box telling me there are no items to trash, but it's frozen. I can't empty the trash, or log-out, or restart, etc.

I afraid I'm getting really tired with this machine. For two years it was fine, then it went loopy. I've done a clean reinstallation of everything, but these kind of problems are still there.

Any thoughts on the trash problem? I can't find anything by searching.

How did you get this dialog box to appear? I've never seen a dialog telling me there aren't any items in the Trash.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the details. But when I tried to restart/shut-down, I was told this wasn't possible because the Finder couldn't quit (because it was trying to empty the trash).

There was a dialogue box explaining that I couldn't empty the trash because items were in use (I had trashed an avi file and no apps were open) and a drop down entitled 'details'. This was supposed to list details of the files being trashed, but it said there were none.

All a bit of a mess. It hasn't happened again, but things like this worry me.

Sounds like the Finder's prefs or caches are, to use the technical term, borked.

See if deleting those files does anything. (They're in your user folder/Library/ in Preferences and Caches, respectively.
