boot dmg on ipod?

is it possible to copy a dmg to my ipod and run it on boot? i can't get any blank dvds for another week since i'm away from any stores.

What exactly do you mean, "run it on boot"?

sorry...

'on boot' as in when i start my computer, i want the ipod to boot using the dmg i transferred to the ipod.

You can't boot off of an un-burned .dmg file. You could if you first installed whatever OS is contained in the dmg on the iPod and then selected the iPod as the startup volume.

ok thanks. i guess ill just wait until i get back home to burn the dmg on to dvd. should i use disk utility or toast to burn the disk image?

I don't think it matters. I'd use disk utility just to be on the safe side.

The iPod boots its own OS. It doesn't come on a .dmg.

And you shouldn't boot a computer off an iPod anyway, the drive can overheat and die. And no, you can't boot a Mac off a .dmg.

thanks tooki. i guess i should have done a little more research before posting. i now know that using your ipod as a hd will significantly shorten the lifespan of the drive.

ill just burn the image to disk.
