Ever notice that you can't select text in a Cocoa application and begin a drag operation right away? You must wait a second or so before trying to drag it, else you begin a new selection instead of initiating a drag. Carbon apps work as they did in MacOS 9 (i.e. you can select and immediately drag the selection).

Anybody know where the delay constant is set? Must be somewhere in the Cocoa framework, but i'll be darned if i can find it. This delay has always driven me nuts. I don't know what kind of sick mind conceived it in the first place, but i'd sure like to make it go away to the corn field.

Nothing you can do about it. I think it's hardcoded.

Everything else has a preference or variable somewhere. I suspect it can be changed, if only one knows where to look. Probably in the Cocoa frameworks someplace, but where? Was hoping someone might know.

There probably is a variable in the Cocoa source that controls it. But unless you're building Cocoa from source, I don't see what good that will do you.

Unless anybody has heard of something I haven't, the fact is that in four years of Mac OS X being out, nobody has figured out how to kill the Cocoa delay.
