Do the Open dialogs in Tiger have a Spotlight search field? I just sent an attachment to my friend using Mail and couldn't find the document I was looking for. I had to switch to the Finder to search for it and then go back. I realized that Spotlight would come in handy in this situation especially.

Yes. According to Apple's Spotlight preview PDF:
Every Mac OS X application has Spotlight built in. When you choose Open or Save, your Smart Folders appear along with your other folders. You can also initiate a Spotlight search in the Open or Save pane.
Is that cool or what?!?!

I didn't even notice the PDF, thanks for pointing it out. I really like how Spotlight it a lot more customizable then once thought.

Why are you trying to find attachments with open and save dialogues? If you want search just use the finder and drag and drop. Dang I've barely used an open dialogue since I got Jaguar.

A click to open a dialog and browsing in column view is just as fast or faster than switching to the finder and doing it, depending on the foremost window in the finder. Plus, once in the finder you have to drag it to the mail window which is likely now hidden which means activating expose.
I say tomato...
