I was wondering if there is a way for a Powerbook G4 with an Airport card to connect to another Powerbook G4 which is connected to a wireless network, and access the wireless network via the second Powerbook G4.
I have one PB which has its Mac address registered, and the other doesn't. If a colleague is working on the unregistered one, I'd like that machine to be able to use the other registered machine to connect to the wireless network.
Thanks in advance for the help!
Matt

It sounds like this can be easily done through "Shared Internet" access...
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet (Tab) > "Share your connection from: Airport" > "To computers using: Airport"
Give this shared Airport network a name, and you should be off and running.

You sure? Wouldn't this require Airport being connected to two channels at the same time? Just a thought, my iBook is still in the evil repairman's hands, so I can't try it myself...

The ManOfSteal is correct-o-mundo on this one. It's a no-brainer.

This is exactly right. A powerbook cannot serve as a wireless repeater. What you are describing is more like a mesh network, and I am unsure if any are available on MacOS X, and in any case require that your base station support it.

You cannot share out via airport if the signal comes in from airport, unless you had a pcmcia card.
However, you could share via ethernet. Get an airport express, plug it in to the mac's ethernet port, and then the APE serves up a net connection provided by the mac's ethernet port.

Right--essentially what I'm trying to do is use the one PB as a repeater for the other PB.
I think that I have tried the suggestion ManofSteal offered and it didn't work. I'll try it again and report what happens.
I'll also try connecting to the internet via ethernet and then sharing via airport.
It would be a nice feature if you could use a PB as a wireless repeater, though I suppose the range at which it would repeat would be limited.
Thanks for the help!
