Well, in order to install iWork, I have to upgrade the OS. I'd been running 10.3.4 with no problems, so thought I would just hang there. But I have to at least go up to 1.3.6 to install Iwork.

So -- there seem to be a number of issues with 10.3.7 (including disappearing Firewire drives!) That would not make me happy. My question -- should I only go to 103.6 or throw caution to the wind and go all the way to 10.3.7? Of course, I would disconnect my firewires first. (I've already done a backup, so I'm OK there. And boy -- it's time for a new internal drive. I'm working on the original 20 GB that came with my gigabit ethernet G4 (400 MZ).

I think you've heard wrong. 10.3.6 had a problem with disappearing FireWire drives. 10.3.7 fixed it.

I'd go all the way to 10.3.7. It fixes bugs that are in 10.3.6, and I've had no problems with it so far.

Well, I bit the bullet and went all the way to 10.3.7, on both my laptop and desktop. Installation went smoothly on both, though man! -- it seemed to take forever.

So far, no problems.

.3.7 was fine, it was everything since .3.4 that was awful. Actually maybe even point 3... dang... we Mac users are so finicky hahaha
