Recover Mail folders?

While doing some housekeeping on my iMac (OSX1.3) and throwing out needless (I thought) files and folders I inadvertendly(sp) lost my mail addresses and SENT folder as well as some other folders. It is possible for me to recover them?

Sure, restore from backup. You do keep backups, don't you, surely in this day and age?
