I often can't DELETE printers from list - sometimes they are printers that I no longer use directly from my laptop but once used as shared from a Desktop Mac. They delete, but then next time I go into the Printer Setup Utility... there they are.

When I first noticed this it was happening on a printer that still had something queued (from my PB) to be printed... but I could only get it to disappear by PHYSICALLY (USB) attaching that printer to my PB. It would insist on printing those queued pages & would THEN be deleteable.

Of late, even empty printers won't stay deleted (Deskjet 930, Brother MFC 8300, HP 8300... etc).

Is there a printer queue file or cache or pref file that can be deleted as a work-around? (of course I'd prefer to have the Printer Setup Utility operate correctly) PSU operation?

OS 10.3.5 / PowerBook

Hi LOve...

I don't have a specific fix but you can try these ..

1. Delete printer drivers and prefs ...
(A) Trash the printer drivers - Macintosh HD/Library/Printers

(B) Trash the printers preferences ..
HD/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.yourprinter

2. Repair permissions

3. Printer Setup Repair - Panther

4. Clean all caches with this

Thanks - those proved some helpful software... tho not for this particular problem.

Turned out the problem was only with *shared* printers... and I had to delete them from the serving machine. *whatever*
