hey,

my friends ibook will not boot.

when i turn it on it shows the apple screen, then it says i need to restart your computer and to hold the bower button...

it says it in 4 languages then at the bottom
ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

any ideas?

i have tried to load the system restore disks and teh osx disk and it says the same things

maybe your friend installed some bad ram?

Basically, if it's crashing even when you're starting up from the system cds, it's hardware related.

it was working uptill the other then i guess it said to download updates and since she did some updates (not sure what one) it will not boot...

well it should still boot off the CDs (insert cd, restart holding down "c") since that isn't dependent on any software updates or downloads.

can you confirm that booting of the CDs doesn't work?

should i use the recovery cd or the osx cd's?

assumeing it iwll boot with the C key

i do not want to lose her data....

Try zapping the PRAM. I forget the key combo.

there are some useful startup key combos at my post here if you want to try some of them. apple's support pages for mac os x are a real bounty of information, too.
