Where would you find a file located on the Classic Desktop in Jaguar? The machine was running 10.1 and had a file sitting on the OS9 Desktop, it was then updated to Jag, and I need to get that file. The "OS9 Desktop" alias has been trashed.
Thanks...

to restore it, i think you want to type something like this in terminal:
ln -s /Desktop /Desktop\ (OS\ 9\ Desktop)
i'm not at a Mac right now, so i can't test that.

What does that restore exactly? The alias to the OS9 Desktop?
I get this by the way:
[shiva:/] candg% ln -s /Desktop /Desktop\ (OS\ 9\ Desktop)
Badly placed ()'s.
[shiva:/] candg%

The correct command would be:
% ln -s /Desktop\ Folder /Desktop\ \(Mac\ OS\ 9\)

It's worth noting that in OS9, the Desktop was set up on a per-volume basis. If you dragged a file from a volume to the Desktop and then removed that volume, the file would disappear. It would reappear when that volume was connected again.
Anyway, the Desktop Folder for each volume is at the root of that volume, in the folder "Desktop Folder".

It's the same laptop hard drive as it was before the upgrade.

I looked in any "Desktop Folder" I could find, file's not there.
The correct command would be:
% ln -s /Desktop\ Folder /Desktop\ \(Mac\ OS\ 9\)
I'll give this a shot
