Hello all,

I recently installed extra hard disks into two G4 machines at home. When I connect to either of these machines from I cannot see the new hard disks I installed.

Any clues?

Thanks in advance!

Do they have any unusual characters in their names, like slashes, periods or question marks?

I do not have any illegal characters in the names of the drives. They are named "Xspare1" and "Xspare2"

Can you see them if you use ssh through the terminal? Just curious-- I'm not sure what this would prove, but there may be some way to force-mount them, if so.

In a terminal type:

'ssh username@ip.address' (without the quotes) hit return, and you'll be prompted for a password.

edit: I think that needs to be the short username.

Once you're logged in, type 'cd /volumes' (change directory command-- also without the quotes) hit return again, then when you get the next prompt, type 'ls' and it'll list all the volumes mounted.

You probably dont have ssh enabled on the remote machine. You'll have to turn that on in the sharing prefs, and if you're behind a router, forward port 22 to the machine. Didn't think about that, sorry.
