Anyone know if Tiger/Safari 2.0's save-complete-webpage feature will be compatible with the .mht format that Windows/IE uses to accomplish the same function? (or for that matter the old MacOS9/IE5 complete web archive format)

tx,
ox

likely it will do it the same way may other apps do it. Save the html source and all graphics into a folder.

Well, Win/IE permits the option of either: one can save everything into one archive file (.mht), which I imagine is more portable/easier to keep track of, or save source and graphics into separate locations. I do hope Safari 2.0 will also allow similar flexibility, as well as interoperability with Win/IE -- that's why I'm asking.

proprietary formats. No. Don't think so, let alone MS letting them play in their sand box.

your opinion is noted, and that very possibly could be the case. then again, TextEdit can read/write Word files, and KeyNote can read/write (or just import/export, which isn't quite the same thing?) PowerPoint files...

Office formats live on another level. There are an amazing number of people who do not realize any other software of these types exist. Not allowing import (at the least) and export REALLY hurts the marketability of any competing software.

This html hack I have never even heard of, so there is no pressing market need to 1) copy it 2) interpolate with it.

Is this Apple's attempt at "Scrapbook" from IE?

I loved that scrapbook feature, in fact since using Safari, I'd forgotten about it but it would be nice to see Apple do something similar.

As for .mht, no thanks, the last think we need is more proprietory cr*p.

I save websites in PDF format, just in case that I have to view/send/show them in a Wintel system.

one way to do it would be a package...

That way it was all in one folder that would work on Windows, but if you double clicked the folder (package) on OS X it would open the page.

not so sure, .rtfd is a package. For those who dont' know, a rtf with images. It is a package and windows Word has NO CLUE what it is. So while for mac/mac files bundles can work when you start sharing with linux/windows it breaks. Compare this to simply saving the html and related files in a folder. Little more of a pain on the mac side compared to a bundle but much easier to deal with when sending to users of other OS's.
