i am running mac os x ,latest version.
I just wondering how can i 'Clean' the current OS and use the install disk to perform another OS installation?
Do we got some utilities for mac that can help me to back up my system?
i am kind of new to mac, thx in advance
There were once four people named Everybody, Somebody, Nobody and Anybody. Somebody had to do a job, but Nobody wanted to do it. Nobody could see that Anybody could do it, and Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Nobody ended up doing it, and it so happened that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

burn any files you want to keep to a cd first. Then insert the OS X install CD, quit the installer and open the Disk Utility, select your HD, choose erase and format, and let it do it's thing. Once that is completed, install OS X, and reboot. Then copy the saved files over to the new install and wha lah!.....clean HD, clean OS.......

1. "wah lah" is a horrible corruption of "Voilą!"

2. If you don't want to partition, there's no need to use Disk Utility: just choose "Erase and Install" as the installation option.

AFAIK, they are 2 different sayings...... but does it really matter, or are you now serving as the "grammer police" in addition to being a moderator ?

If reinstalling the OS is all you want to do, there's little need to reformat the hard drive. Just boot from the CD, and do an Archive and Install. This will move your current OS to a folder named Previous System Folder, install a completely clean OS on the drive, and leave all your applications, documents, and settings alone. It's a lot less hassle than having to backup and reinstall everything!

Welcome to the Mac.
