I need to rename several 1000s tiff pix that I have. The problem is that some of the files can't be renamed - and they can't be duplicated individually. If I want to duplicate the folder where they are located I can - but I can't choose just one of the pictures and duplicate that. That in itself is not the problem - the rename thing is - but it all points to some problem which i'm unfamiliar with. The files are not locked and changing permissions in the Info Window hasn't help - but maybe I'm just doing it the wrong way
Anyone with suggestions?
thanx

If it's just some Finder voodoo, perhaps using A Better Finder Rename can bypass that.
You can easily do stuff on a per-file basis, if you install the contextual menu item (don't remember if its there by default).

There's some freeware apps out there that will allow you to batch rename photos. At work now, so I can't tell you which I use on occassion.

The problem in not to rename a batch - but the fact that some of the files are locked - they can't be renamed. Not even in the finder. If I open the Info window on the file I can't rename them there.
I will try the A Better Finder program. But what might be the problem - why can't I duplicate the files either?

Unlock the files via Apple i. And/or set admin privileges to your user name.

Is the folder somewhere within your home folder?
If not, try repairing permissions with Disk Utility. Actually, if you haven't, give it a shot anyhow.

sounds like a permissions issue, but I'm not sure it would be recorded as an error by DU, and therefore DU wouldn't touch it..
Get info on the file, go to the ownership and permissions section, make sure you are the owner and that you can read and write. you may have to authenticate as admin to edit this info.
or, if you feel safe in the terminal, you can rename it with
sudo mv /path/to/oldfilename.tiff /path/to/newfilename.tiff
this will ask for your password.
if you have more than one file you need to rename, it'd probably be better to just set yourself as owner with proper permissions on the whole lot of 'em, though...
