I fixed my friends iBook yesterday. She had been messing around trying to fix an internet connection. She is computer illiterate and recently switched from XP. After a reboot, she was auto-logged in as usual, but neither Dock, desktop or menubar would load. Just the blue screen background and mousepointer. I set it up in firewire target mode and moved her Library folder to the desktop. The iBook booted straight up. Obviously the prefs were hosed. If she had another, clean user account and manual login, she would have been able to fix this without the need for a second mac and FW target mode.
Of course, replacing stuff in the new Library folder is a tedious job, I sticked to adress book and some "safe" app prefs.
What I would like to know is which prefs that were likely culprit(s). I have heard about som prefs named bezel-something and suspect also dock prefs that might cause these problems. Does anyone know what prefs that are likely culprits in this situation? Would save me (and possibly other people) some time next time this happens to somone.
