hi, i love this 4C printer, but now that i've got a G5, it'll print 8 x 10's, etc., but only print 4x6's centered on an 8 1/2 x 11 page. it used to have something called "tiled photos" options or some such

i tried to find an OS X "imagebrowser," i think that's what it needs, but couldn't

anyone have any insight here? thanks!

iPhoto can print easily on 4x6's, but that might not be the ideal solution. I haven't tried printing on a 4x6 outside of Photoshop and iPhoto, but can't you just go to page setup and select "4x6 in" or "4x6 in (boarderless)" in any app and have that work?

I have the Canon i860, and I couldn't print 4x6 until I installed Canon's drivers (as opposed to the drivers built in to OS X). With Canon's drivers, there's an option to print in that size, and when I use the clever paper holder for that kind of paper, that size is selected automatically.

So - have you installed Canon's drivers?

hi - - thanks all

yes, i tried the page set-up/selecting '4x6' maneuver, and all it gives me is a 4x6 print in the middle of an 8 1/2 x 11 pg

re the drivers, the drivers that came w/the software disc appear to be just for OS 9

i tried to DL newer drivers, and the only one i could find that said 'ok for OS X' was somehow still an OS 9 driver (?)

i'm open to other suggestions, or if someone thinks they know where to get the right driver/"image browser" thingy

thanks!

p.s.

>iPhoto can print easily on 4x6's, but that might not be the ideal solution. I haven't tried printing on a 4x6 outside of Photoshop and iPhoto, but can't you just go to page setup and select "4x6 in" or "4x6 in (boarderless)" in any app and have that work?<

in case i wasn't clear, any time i go to page set-up, i either don't see an option for 4x6 under "paper size," or, if i select 4 x 6 once i've selected "print," it gives me the 4x6 centered in the middle of a page

i tried this in several applications, including iphoto and photoshop, so something isn't interfacing well betw the computer and the printer software

also, the clever paper holder trick didn't work for me

i think i need one of these new drivers that'll have the 4x6/tiled photo options, but i couldn't find them

thanks again

Did you try the instructions on Canon's web site, where they pecifically address the question of borderless 4x6 printing from iPhoto?

yes, i saw the info on their web site on how to print 4x6's

their instructions are RIDICULOUS; tons more extra steps than there used to (or should need to) be

and, worst of all, you don't even get to print the whole image, you have to crop it to their specs (using drag and drop x-hairs) before it'll print

Hmm. Well, since I opted not to install any printer drivers when I installed OS X, I just downloaded the drivers from Canon's site. Their site is a little flakey but they're up there, and they work great, and allow 4x6 printing. I use the 4x6 paper feeder attachment for my i860.

By the way, make sure you have Pop-up blocking turned OFF when visiting the driver download page, otherwise the window it opens will just be blank.

I also have Canon's "ImageBrowser" application, but I don't see how this would matter (you can download the latest version from their site though).

The Mac OS forum is strictly for discussing Mac OS itself. Application questions go in Applications, peripherals questions go in Peripherals.
