Hi, I have a 12inch Rev C powerbook. It's running OS X 10.3.7. My 60 GB hard drive is almost full and I am planning to reinstall OSX to wipe the drive and start fresh. i'm sure I have lots of junk on the HDD that I no longer need, and I'll just download most of those little things when I find a need for it.
My question is this... What do I need to back up?
I want to back up all my emails (how?!?) and all of my stickies (i keep a lot of stuff on stickies).
What else would I need to back up? (photo's and music already noted). I figured i could download vlc/adium afterwards.
does anyone know where i can find my mail files and stickies files? any other suggestions? Thanks a bunch. this is the first time i've had to backup/re install OSX, I havent a clue where to find things (unlike on a pc, where i reinstalled frequently enough to see it as a routine)
Thanks for your help guys (and gals)!

Most of what you want to save is contained in your Home folder. If you have multiple users, backup all the home folders. You may want to backup your global Library folder (on the root level of your drive). If you want an effortless restore, you'll need to backup your Applications folder, too. You won't need the standard Apple software; just concentrate on purchased Apple applications you have and any third party software. And if you have installed Unix software you'll have a more difficult time having to deal with invisible folders and whatnot.

i mainly wanna save my emails, rss feed settings, sticky note stuff, safari bookmarks. things like that.
to back up the entire library would take a staggering ammount of CD's to back it up.
i mainly want to wipe the harddrive and re install so i'd get rid of all the bits and pieces that i've stored and dont use anymore. kinda like spring cleaning. thanks for your suggestions. anybody know what i'm talking about?

Your emails are in your home folder -> Library -> Mail.
Also remember to back up:
* Documents
* Address book
* iCal (if you use that)
* iTunes playlists
* Bookmarks from Firefox/Safari
* Download folder
Thats whats on my 'remember when reinstalling'-list.
