I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight to what is going on here. I am a bit of a novice with macs. I have a 10.2.8 user who has been having problems with apps crashing about once a week. Word, Entourage, Adobe Photoshop Illustrator, and Safari they all crash at one point in time. We did the repair permissions, disk first aid, zap pram, cleared cache. But the problems continued. We don’t have disk warrior here although I suggested including this in their budget. I ran a loop hardware test last night and it ran through the loop 91 times, no error. He has 1 GB of memory and is using a G4 (I think a powermac...its a tower). Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed from here? The crash logs give me these two error codes: 'Kern_invalid_address' and 'kern_protection_address'. Any help I would greatly appreciate.

Thanks!

seems as though those are just program bugs he's running into.

When you say the app crashes once a week, is that with the application running continuously for that time? or less?

Are there certain things with any of those applications that seem to cause it to crash?

Another step you might take is to delete the preferences for offending applications.

aahh good questions... I am not exactly sure because I didn't ask these quetions and I am not there when an app crashes. But preferences I forgot about those. I'll delete these files and see. So let me see...thats in users/library/preferences, right?

yep.

they should be.

For specific program crashes, it would also help to know exactly what version of the various programs he's running (i.e. with the Office apps, not just whether it's X or 2004, but what updates he's applied if any)

Hey is he going to lose all his settings from photoshop or any other program if he deletes his preferences? If so is there any way not to lose those?
