for a while now, until i get a tic tac mac, i'm borring my friends g4 cube (450). just as it was the day he bought it, no upgrades say for maxed ram. and on his 20 gig drive he has 10.3 installed. but 20 is not enough for me at the moment, so i went on and bought and installed a seagate 80 gig drive. at the time he couldn't find his panther disc so i put on a fresh copy of jaguar. however jaguar is not liking my wireless mouse too much and i urged him to find his panther install disk. and he did.

he gave me the install disks that came with his new g5 powermac, why else would he let me use his cube? problem is: after reading the package contents my mac tells me it won't let me installl the OS or it's BUNDLE. i know i can't run garage band on this thing, but all i want to do is get panther on this thing.

can anyone help me, i can ellaborate more on the problem if need me.

thanks in advance,
p

1. This isn't exactly legal.

2. The CDs for the G5 are designed to run only on the G5, and you'd need to be tricky to make them install on your Cube.

3. If the Cube hasn't had any RAM added, it probably doesn't have enough to run OS X anyway.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

so here's an idea i don't know will work

i read in an earlier post about installing panther on an external drive for emergency use. if all goes to hell you can still boot from the external drive with a "vanilla" copy of what ever version of os x on it, sorry "MAC OS"

what if i were to take those infernal G5 PROPIETARY install disks back to the g5 and install panther on the usb external drive. then i'll bring it back to the cube and switch out the drives?

and if it works i'll be expecting props from richard dean anderson... have to find out how to incorporate duct tape into my plan.

mu ha ha ha,
p

Uhh, do you know no other Mac users? And if so, do you know of no bittorrent sites?
