Hi,

I have my Dual G5 connected to my 4 port router along with two Windoze boxes running WinXP.

I can access the PC's from the G5, but whenever I attempt to browse the G5 from one of the PC's I get Nada.

-firewalls are disabled on all three machines

-they are all part of the same workgroup

-every account has a user name and password

-the G5 has 'Windows Sharing' enabled

From the Windows side I can see the G5 present in the list when I click 'View Workgroup Computers'. It then prompts me for a user name and password, at which point I enter my G5 user name and password. It pauses for a moment, then reprompts me for username and password.

What am I doing wrong?!?

tia

I had this problem as well. The account you're using on your Mac must have the same name and password as the one on your PC, IIRC. This means, if you have an account on your PC which is called xxx with password yyy, then you must have an account on the Mac with the same name and password. I had to create a seperate account for this on my Mac.

At least that's what I remember.

you need to enter "computername\username" as the user name, where "computername" is the name of your computer in the Sharing system prefs (it probably helps to make it a short name, with no spaces).

Thanks for the replies.

Although I've had no success logging into my G5 from my WinXp box using my main administrator username/password, I have been able to do so using a secondary account with a different username/password.

Is it not possible to log into the main administrator account from another computer under OS X?

I did find this thread over at Macrumors helpful:

I recall having it not work unless the Mac and the PCs were in the workgroup named "workgroup" (the default).

Easiest way I've found is to.. (on the PC)

Make sure you know the IP address of your Mac.

Go Start Menu -> Run
Type "\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" ( the IP of your Mac) and click OK.
Authenticate, and you can access your files.

Doesnt require any workgroup settings.

tholein: You only have to do that if you are on an older OS than Windows 2000. 2000 and XP will pop up and authentication box where you just use your Mac username and password.
