I tried for over an hour, using man, howto and info pages to find a good, solid example on how to upload a file to a remote server, but curl proved impossible.

I mostly am keen to it for it's ability to resume broken upload and downloads. good when you have large files and somewhat unreliable network connection.

Can someone post an example on how to upload with curl?

While the -T/--upload-file option does exist in curl, you are probably using the wrong protocol. http does not do uploads well (I am not talking about WebDAV here... that is another ball of wax), and ftp does not have good support for resumes (it works, but not well). A far better tool would probably be rsync. As long as you can ssh in it should work (rsync is considered a standard tool on all systems with ssh standard).
