Hey Folks, I moved this posting to the category it belongs in, but was unable to delete it here. Sorry - too rushed to get the post on line.

Trying to install legal, full boxed copy of iLife on G4, OS 10.3.latest, using the DVD copy of the software (the CD copy of iLife won't load as the system says "you have a DVD - use it to load..."). Drive is a Pioneer DVD 107, internal drive (works fine).

When I go to install the software the following happens:

1. Tells me it's "reading pacakages"
2. Says "...installer package needs to run a program to determine if it can be installed. Do you want to continue?"
3. I click "continue"
4. The I get:

"Welcome to iLife Installer
iLife cannot be installed on this computer.
This installation cannot proceed because one of the following applications is running:
GarageBand
iTunes
iPhoto
iMovie
iDVD
Please quit these apps before installation."

5..None of these apps, nor anything else is running.

Any Ideas???

Thanks,

Felix

Weird. You could use Pacifist to force the packages to install (but to get at them, you'll need to get inside the invisible Packages folder by double-clicking the DVD icon in the Finder, typing Command-Shift-G, and typing 'Packages' without the quotes).

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Have you tried rebooting?

Unplugging iPods, cameras, MIDI devices?

I had this problem. Reboots made no difference, but I found a solution in the end: kill iTunesHelper, then the install works.

Barney.

I take it that you're talking about iLife '05? Do you already have '04? iTunesHelper could do it. Also, if permissions are wacky or if the apps being upgraded have been moved out of the Applications folder, it could be causing some kind of conflict with the receipts.

Randman and Barney are both right. It's iTunehelper.

Actually barney had the answer first. But glad to know what the problem was, either way.
