Hey all, not sure if this is the appropriate forum or not, since I don't know what exactly the problem is, but here goes. Earlier this morning, I was having some trouble with iTunes crashing. Everytime I connected my iPod, it'd crash. I repaired permissions, and repaired the disk...still had the problem. My next step was to re-install the iPod software. This was strange. By each volume, it had an exclamation point saying the software couldn't be installed because it required OS 10.1.5. I have 10.3.8 installed. Is there any other solution besides reinstalling the OS?

Are you installing from a cd that came with the iPod? Maybe there is newer software on Apple's site, or you could try reinstalling iTunes.

First of all, login to another account and see if iTunes functions normally there. If it does, there is a problem with your account. It could be a corrupted library. If it happens system-wide, then the application is probably corrupted. If you haven't yet updated to 4.7.1 perhaps that will help cure the peculiar problem you're having. Now when you try to install iTunes again, where are you getting the installer from? Assuming this only happens in your account, I would try trashing the iTunes preferences (~/Library/Preferences), and if that did not work I would attempt to rebuild the library through the Import in iTunes File menu. You should be able to import your XML backup.

Open the iPod Software Updater in /Applications/Utilities. Then hit the restore button and see if that fixes it. Make sure to back up any files you may have stored on the iPod other than the music iTunes puts there.

This fixed 3 computers that were having the same problem. And try this before what Big Mac suggested. The app is probably not corrupted and I doubt it has anything to do with preferences or your library.
