I'm just about to take delivery of a new Mac Mini with an 80GB hard disk. I have an external 2.5" 80GB Firewire disk that's little used, so I was wondering, is there a novice friendly way to set up mirroring to this external disk? I'm guessing this kind of thing's built-in to MacOS Server, but can the desktop edition handle this too?

Disk Utility has a Raid tab that allows mirroring and striping.

The problem with this is that yuo can not boot from a RAID drive. Not sure if this is standard, but this is the case with Apple's software RAID implementation. Sux eh? I had the same idea for my Mini, which I use as a web server - this would have been perfect to RAID-1 the drives for automatic backup...
