I'm getting really really frustrated here... I got my dual 2.5 after allmost half a year wait and after a month I had a little troubles with the audio out setting to digital out when I wanted it on internal speakers.. Then short after my HD went south... off to the shop.

2 weeks later I got it back and they had changed the HD..Now freshly installed Panther upgraded to 10.3.8 Doing my permissions and running cocktail doing my cache cleaning and crons and again permissions between every software installation things are going baaaad!

Quicktime keeps saying it's not installed properly even tho i have reinstalled 2 times with different installers. just can't get that to work.

Now the old audio out problem is starting again. keeps jumping back to digital out in system prefs.

And to top it... itunes lost it's skin.

I dunno what do u suggest i do?

Don't repair permissions and clear cashes and all that other stuff (unless there is problem to troubleshoot). If something is not broken, don't fix it!

Skinning applications can lead to troubles. Don't do it unless fiddling with the system is your hobby.

I would suggest you do an Archive & Install.

i would try that after a seeing if the same problems extend to a new or different user. If they don't, it is a user specific problem and an A&I generally won't fix it.

same thing on the other user

I was talking to the apple fellar who said that it properly was a hardware problem when i tried to talk him into giving me a new OS. But my hardware test was smooth no problem and I was a little pissed that this should be a hardware problem just a couple of days after I got it back from the shop

like i didn't pay enough for a dual 2.5 a pro piece of machinery that u would trust in a working inverioment..

well not in this case and not very reconisble in the applerep behavior..

i seriosly doubt the apple advantage atm and my next machine will porperbly be a costom win box... Mylove for apple has definatly faded in this case

Well, I don't know if that is really helpful, but this is what I think about your case.

Either
1) You have been extremely out of luck and got a real weird machine. Maybe even hardware issues (like bad RAM)

*OR*

2) You screwed your Mac yourself but doing something weird to it.

Don't think this is a normal behavior. Well, in the Wintel world it might be, but not with Apple. Little hickups: yes, but what you describe is beyond that...

What new OS do you expect to get? Panther is the only one available to run on the Dual 2.5 G5.

So at this point, do the archive and install as linked to above and it should cure your problem, if it is OS related.

I suspect the "trimming" may have caused the problem.

What precisely did you do?
