I am new to OS X. Tonight, I tried setting up separate accounts for each family member. Why? (1) to help them keep their junk in separate areas. (2) To allow each person to set up the dock, sidebar, desktop pattern, and screensaver as desired. But I am encountering problems sharing programs.

(1) When certain programs (Photoship Elements for example) are booted by a new user, it is viewed as a new installantion, and the program tries to register itself with Adobe's web site for a 2nd time.

(2) Other programs (like iTunes) do not have this problem, but the new user does not have access to the playlist in the administrator's account. How can music files be made available to both users without recopying then from the CDs again?

I am sure that I am going to uncover more sharing issues. If you know of any other pitfalls, please let me know.

Thanks

1) just hit cancel or skip. This is an artifact with the way the app was written.

2) Here's a good write up of how to do this http://www.kenvillines.com/archives/000028.html

Enjoy the Mac!

Thanks, Photoshop elements seems to be working for 2 users now.

And thanks for the link for itunes. I'll work on that later.

First, I've got a bigger problem.

See my next post (need a new subject line for this)
