Recently OS X has started stretching (or compressing) my wallpapers that don't have a matching resolution to my 15" Powerbook. It used to just center these pictures, but now it's compressing the entire picture so that the whole picture is showing, but is distorted. How do I change it so it centers it again?

Change your preferences in Desktop/Screensaver.
