Hi there. I got one of my friends to purchase a Mac mini because she was in the market for a new computer. She uses MSN dial-up for net access, and insisted on using the MSN Explorer browser since that is what she's used to from her last computer (Windows). I set it up for her, but I find the browsing experience horrid and slow, the browser won't even load MSN.com properly! It is just a mess.

Does anyone know if Microsoft is planning on releasing a new version of MSN Explorer? It would make me feel better if I could at least tell her there is an update coming.

Thanks for anyone who can help..

If I recall correctly, Microsoft has never updated MSN Explorer for the Mac since its original release.

This is a shame, because the updated Tasman engine it uses is one of the Mac's best-kept secrets. Although its speed is lacking, the upgrade to its standards support blows anything out there, even Mozilla, out of the water. Of course, no one uses it, since you have to pay up front before even trying it out. I don't use it either. End result: nobody knows about it.

Shove Firefox at her and let her discover what Web browsing can be. I'm sorry to be so blunt, but it's doubtful that MSN/Mac is ever going to see another update, so I don't see much of an alternative.

Yep - tell her to go with an alternative:

Safari
Camino
Firefox
or even (for her comfort) IE.

My favorite is Omniweb, but she doesn't sound like the kind of user who would use/appreciate it's extra features.
