How to tell broadband connection speed?

Hello, I have my G4 connected over airport to a broadband router with a wireless card over Airport. I'm running OS X 10.3. This is probably really obvious and staring me in the face with a little setting somewhere, but all I can find is the Airport signal strength. I know that Remot Access on OS 9 stated connection speed. I'm asking this because BT Yahoo is apparently being upgraded from 512k to 2Mb, and the connection has been a bit flaky over the last couple of days, so I'm wondering if they are in the process of upgrading the lines at the moment.

Thanks

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

Speed testers rarely give accurate results. The best way of doing this is to simply transfer a large file over the connection. Of course, you are still really measuring the transfer of that file to that location by that protocol... and there are lots of potential holdups in that connection that might or might not be present in other connections.

The real point here is the most of the "broadband testers" out there are Java apps and are tuned for Window's version of Java and give bad results on everything else (sun, linux, macos x, etc...).

For what it is worth....

My uncle's Linksys router sometimes spontaneously changes effective transfer speeds and needs to be reset via the http configuration pages. If you think your speed should be higher given your physical internet line, try resetting the router itself.
