I'm running 10.3.7 and have noticed that from the beginning of March I've been seeing this in system.log and console.log:

Code:
Mar 9 10:41:38 Quicksilver kernel: hotfiles_evict: err 1celocating file Mar 9 10:42:08 Quicksilver last message repeated 2 times Mar 9 10:44:08 Quicksilver last message repeated 4 times
Sometimes the last message is repeated 20 times and is re-repeated 20 times every 10 minutes.

This is only happening on my Powermac but not my Powerbook which is also running 10.3.7.

Nothing shows up in top or Activity Monitor while this is happening and I've quit every app (bar the finder) and shut down all services in System Preferences and still it happens.

I've googled for this error and got very little help, one link stated that it was caused by entourage. I don't even use entourage, so I'm guessing it's not the cause here.

Any help would be very much appreciated as it's bugging the hell out of me.

Thanks.

I would guess it's caused by Quicksilver.

The application named Quicksilver is not and has never been installed. What you see is the machine name

I believe the reference to "hotfiles" is the Panther feature that relocates often-accessed files to specific section of the hard drive for faster access. There appears to have been some sort of error "evicting" the file - it's having trouble moving that file.

Have you had any power failures that turned off your system prematurely?
