I know that this means that the startup disk needs to be reassigned to the internal HD, but the problem is that the boot never moves past the flashing folder/question mark icon. This is my brother's ibook and I am trying to help him out. How should I proceed? I did a search but I am a bit of a noob so I need some hand-holding here. I have a PB so I could burn a boot disk from that if need be. Thanks in advance.

Boot up holding down the "Option" key and then choose the internal HD from the boot options/drives that should come up...

Don't forget to set the startup disk to the hard drive once you get booted up

because the globe means the machine was set to netboot.

You may still want to check the disk though. As Detrius said, the machine was set to netboot, however, it should timeout when it gets no response from the netboot server and continue booting from the hard disk.
