From what I've read online regarding Tiger development, it appears that Apple has figured out a way to accelerate the remaining Quartz 2D elements (lines, text, etc.) through the GPU. Sounds like window resizing, font rendering, scrolling, and so on will be MUCH faster (according to Apple's QT State of the Union video, at least 2x faster with other increases being much higher). Will we finally be seeing GUI speed on par with OS 9?

To me, this seems to be one of the most (if not THE most) exciting new features in Tiger. Why have we not heard more about this, especially from Apple? Can anyone provide more detailed information about this...graphics card requirements, etc.?

Quartz 2D Extreme is going to be much welcomed but I think you're in the vast minority regarding the amount of excitement it's going to bring. Yes everyone wants a snappier UI but Q2DE kind of pales in comparison to tech like Spotlight, Core Data etc. I think the perceptive speed of Tiger will go up though because of Q2DE

I'm right there with you No reason that my Radeon 9800 Pro can't handle that stuff, freeing up my CPU for other things.
