My [lovely] wife just bought an iBook G4 12" (OS X 10.3.8). She's able to connect to SMB/CIFS shares using the cifs:// or smb:// syntax, with no problem, albeit OS X dcoesn't seem to support pure CIFS (445/tcp) connections -- see a recent related post by me about this.

However, the connections she sets up (whether at work, to Win2k resources), or at home (to WinXP or Samba3 resources) don't seem to be persistent, even when she selects "Add to Keychain". In every case, she periodically -- after sleep or reboot -- has to re-enter credentials. This is both inconvenient and unintuitive.

I've tried this both with "Require password to wake this computer" enabled and disabled, with no difference.

Help!?!

[edit -- fixed typo]
[edit -- and again, this time in the title. Geesh.]

KeyChain support is not really complete with SMB, this is a known issue. No word on changes for 10.4 (and by that I do not mean that it has not been corrected, I mean "no word"... there are massive changes coming in that department).
