Im trying to make more room on my ibook 30gb, and I was wondering if there was any way for me to SAFELY delete OS 9 Classic off my hardrive. Should I do it? I never use it and its pointless for me to have it. Im more likely to upgrade to Tiger when that comes out. What should I do. Is it possible?

Drag the System Folder to the Trash. Empty the Trash. OS 9 is now deleted.

Indeed, it really is as simple as that. As long as you don't use any Classic applications (even Classic applications in OSX), you should be fine to just remove it in the way that was already prescribed. Just throw out the System Folder and you're done.

Just another suggestion, I stripped my OS 9 System Folder down to 250 MB and kept just the basic OS 9 apps (IE, Acrobat Reader, etc. another 40 MB worth). So for 300 MB I have an emergency fallback (not a backup, it is on the same disk after all). Honestly, I can't remember ever using it on my TiBook, but I on my Beige G4 that is hacked to run Panther it has come in quite handy.
If I get to point where I need to worry about 300 MB of space, I know it is time to get a new hard drive.

my thaughts as well!
I would rather backup the files/programs and then make room.
If you're not using OS 9, dump it anyway.

If you're going to go all-out, remember the pref pane, and /System/Core Services/Classic Startup. That'll save you another 25 mb.

My OS9 folder is stripped down to only 84.5 Mb; it only has what's needed to launch Classic.
You could probably save much more space than that by deleting the various language files lurking in your MacOS X System folder!
And HD's are cheap these days.

gotta second what rainy day said - using delocalizer (sp?) saved me 600mb by deleting the files associated with the startlingly wide range of languages os x supports.
that said, i did delete os 9 as well. how do you remove it from the pref pane, though?

I prefer Monolingual myself. It cleaned up 767MB of space for me.
