Hi everybody,
I'm trying to do the cmd-ctrl-shift-4 screen capture and it isn't working very well. It will create the cross-hairs, but when I drag the mouse, it only "highlights" a small area, then seems to stop working. Nothing is actually captured to the clipboard.
I really like this feature, but can't seem to rely on it. Does anybody know a way to reset it, or otherwise make it work?
Or is there a third-party app that will let me do this? I don't want the entire screen captured; just areas of it.
Thanks for any help!

Edit: oops, didn't read your post closely enough. ^^;; I see no reason why that wouldn't work.
You could always try Grab? You can copy just a selection of the screen that way too.

Does it work when trying to capture to a file, instead of to the clipboard (ie, without the CTRL key)?

SnapNDrag allows both selected screen shots and windows captures. There is also a timer so that one may take pictures of alerts, drop downs, etc.
Images may be saved as PNG, TIFF, or JPEG.

Hey - thanks for the ideas!
I have been designing web applications for my work, and I use filemaker pro 7 to design how I want the developer to make different pages. When I'm finished with my design, I tried to capture just the work I did, but it's almost like the cmd-ctrl-shift-4 would "bog down" (I don't know how else to describe it), stop "capturing" an area, and fail completely to make a clipboard image.
I quit filemaker and tried on random Safari screen's, etc, and it worked perfectly. Maybe too many resources being used with filemaker? Who knows for sure...
HOWEVER, I downloaded SnapNDrag, and all problems are solved. That is one handy piece of freeware - thanks for passing it on!!
