airport password always incorrect...

Hello,

I'm having an issue with my airport. Every time I log in I'm told that "the password for the preferred network is incorrect." But then simply selecting the airport from the top menu will allow me access without entering another password, so it would seem that the password in the keychain access IS actually correct.

I've set and reset the password repeatedly, both on the airport and in the sys prefs and have deleted and re-deleted the keychain access items, but to no avail. Every time I log back in I'm told that the password is incorrect...

What do I do? Anybody have any ideas? I'm annoyed.

Thanks,
Km

Make sure you enter the password for the correct form of encryption. Sometimes it's not always standard WEP encryption. There's a pull-down for this when you're typing the password.

Do you know if this changed with recent updates to the OS?

Things were working quite well to a point, and then... one day... this issue began. I haven't tracked the date and so have no context, though...

I'm on 10.3.7.

We've got a whole load of iBooks at work and this has happened a few times. Took us ages to figure out what's going on.

The airport network password is saved in TWO places - your own keychain which is used by the Airport menu item; and somewhere else that I've yet to establish which is used during startup and is set from within System Preferences.

What you need to do is log in, go to System Prefs -> Network Pane -> Airport. In the Airport tab, select your wireless network in the popup choice beside "By default, join". Enter your password in there, hit return and then hit "Apply Now".

Works for us every time.

Should have said you need to go to System Prefs immediately when you log in, do not select your network from the Airport menu first.
