Does anyone know how to bring back /dev/audio? It was available in 10.2 but like a lot of useful features, Apple removed it. Or, if this isn't possible I'd like a simple way of outputting to the soundcard like on linux where I can do:
cat mywav.wav > /dev/audio

Uh, no. It was not in 10.2. OS X has never had /dev/audio.

Take a look at http://www.opendarwin.org/projects/OpenAudio/, but I'm not sure if it plays ball with CoreAudio that well.
