Hi all, just come back from a few days away and been told we had a power outage for several hours. I know I can see when my server came up from the uptime command, but how would I see when it went down and if it's done it more than once while away.

I'm guessing this is written to a log somewhere but I don't know where or how to access it. Be handy to know how long the freezer was without power for etc.

Cheers,

J.

Usually you see sudden downtime by when a log stops.

Your system.log will record startup information when every your system is restarted.

Another is using the command 'last' but that won't help you with power outages. It's difficult to know for certain when the power went out. However, 'last' shows you intentional shutdowns.
