I just enabled dual-monitor support on my eMac to tool around with (using the excellent Screen Spanning Doctor applescript hack), and unless I can do what I'm looking for, I'll probably disable it.
I'd like to get the menu bar to either span across both monitors (possible in Windows with the taskbar) or get the menu to follow the active window. The reason is that I'm trying to use GenieSoft ScoreWriter on my secondary display but the menu and the transport bar are stuck on the primary display with the dock. Same thing with Camino or Firefox or Safari...trying to get to my bookmarks means going back to my other window. Boo!
Is there any sort of customizable dual-monitor software out there where I can get this thing to do what I want?

I've been complaining about this since OS 8 when I got my first dual monitor setup. Lucky for you, I just found out about a (work in progress) solution.
StepMenus creates a floating palate of the menu bar that you can place on your second (or third, etc.) monitor. There are still some issues with it, and it only works in Cocoa apps, but it's a great start.
Also, what I have been doing is using the second monitor for informational type windows, things like iChat, Acrobat, any type of program that has limited menu bar interaction. Word works well on the second screen because many of the features are accessed via the toolbar/palettes which can be moved.

That's not the way that Apple wants it to work, so there's no Apple method to get that to work. As said above, there may be third party hacks to do what you want, but these will be hacks.

Detrius, while I understand that's what Apple wants (and further understand that a spanning desktop isn't what they want for the eMac), it's not what you might call intuitive.
Thanks for the link jasong...i'll see what works with it and what doesn't.

I was just coming here to mention DejaMenu. I forgot about that one, and it works great.
