I have several .tif files that have been on my HD for a few years. When I double click on the files, the system thinks that the image is a finder resource. How do I fix this? I've tried dragging it to Photoshop and changing the 'open with' app in the info window. Neither of these work. When I try to change the default app, I am asked if I want to change all of the Finder's files to open w/photoshop...no. I've run permission repair, with no luck.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure if this will work or not, but you could try sending them to someone with a Windows PC. Then have that person create a new email (not just hit reply), and then attach just the .tif file to it. That, in essense, would strip away the resource fork completely. When you get them back to your Mac, OS X will use the extension to figure out the default association.

I'm sure there are fancier ways to do it, but that should be quick and dirty.

It would be a lot faster just to use mv in the terminal.

I think the direct solution to your problem would be a program like Super Get Info. It sounds like the files are identifying themselves as Finder files rather than normal TIFs, so you'd need to change the file code back to 'TIFF'.

I used another Mac, but logged in to my PB via windows sharing. I was then able to copy w/o the metadata. SO, I have a work around, but would really like to be able to fix this on the original Mac.

Chuck, can you tell me more about Super Get Info, does this do more than just changing the default app in the normal Get Info?
