if you go to the apple menu it shows recently used applications. I'd like a menu to show "most used applications" similar to the way itunes works with most played songs. For example I'd set the 10 most used applications and they would show there.

Hmmm, that's pretty much what the dock is used for, except that it's user choice rather than based on an algorithm. But I'd say I've definitely got my 10 most used apps in the dock, and I never use the recent items in the apple menu (apart from anything else they produce a delay in opening the menu itself!).

Set the recently used items higher than 10 and you'll generally get all of your top ten most used applications.

This is true... I guess I can do it this way. ;-)

I jsut think maybe in this modern time of Apps running for weeks it would be nice. Yeah I could put them in the dock and a do some, but sometimes it would be nice to make the computer do the work for me.

Thanks guys

Would she help?

You could create a directory of aliases and stick that in the dock.

What does "most used" mean though?

Most time running?
Most processor time?
Most frequently launched?
Most time as the active application?

(you can see how you'd get different results)

Well, "someone" should write a menubar widget with all those as pref options that gives you a drop-down list based on whichever of those you set.

I'd use it.

I think Most Launched would work for me. Maybe Tiger will have the metadata to allow a Smart Folder with shortcuts for it.

Most launched would only work if the applications are also the most quit. I seldom quit applications. Also, if you launch an app often, it ought to be in the recently used apps list.

launchbar and quicksilver do this already--kinda.

i dont know what kind of algorithm they use. but, if i hit cmd-space (to activate launchbar) and hit 'P'...photoshop is at the top of the list. were i to start using 'Preview.app' more, it would move to the top.

i access all my apps in this manner...the dock is pretty much just in the way most of the time. but, at least it shows me if i have new mail. i guess that's good for something.
if it aint' broke, break it.

F10 is a menubar launcher (I love it) that lets group items by type (gaming, design, utilities, Internet are some of mine), It also allows you to add documents if you call certain documents up regularly.
You can also add a Favorites listing in two different ways, a regular drop-down menu and a quick activation.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

O/T: Given that you use Photoshop so frequently (by the sounds of things anyway), isn't cmd-space an odd combination to use for an app launcher?

For those who don't use PS, holding cmd-space while clicking the mouse will zoom in, throw the option key into the mix to zoom out. Saves changing tool and it zooms to wherever you click - good time saver to learn.
