I'll keep it simple,

I gave my iMac 500mhz G3 10.3 384mb to M & D.

I had an epson C44 plus, they have an epson C44UX. The printers look identical.

The problem;

when I plug the esponC44UX in I see two printers, even after I have deleted all printers before plugging it in.

I have repaired permissions, but no joy.

It is like 10.3 is confused which printer to make available so shows both versions of the C44

How can I reset the printer settings, ie tell the OS to forget all previous printers ever installed?

The only solution at the moment seems to be to reinstall panther, which I don't really want to do.

I thought it worth mentioning that niether of the two printers options available in the OS prints or works in any way.

Help me please

What lives in your /<Username>/Library/Printers/ folder ? Got any stragglers in there ?? Delete any extra printers you find in there and empty the trash

Hello ...

(A) Trash the printer drivers - Macintosh HD/Library/Printers

(B) Trash the printers preferences ..
HD/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.yourprinter

(C) Download and install the up to date printer drivers from the manufacturers web site.

(D) Delete the printer from Printer Setup Utility. Turn Off Printer and disconnect. Restart Computer. Reconnect Printer and turn on. Wait a little. Open "Printer Setup Utility" again. Click the Add Printer button. If the specific type of printer you're using is listed, choose it. For example, if you're using an Epson USB printer, you may be able to choose Epson USB. Otherwise go to USB. Select your printer from the list. Click Add.

You may need to turn on special features of your printer. Select the printer in the Printer List and choose Printers > Show Info. Choose Installable Options from the pop-up menu, select the options you want to use, and click Apply Changes.
